Hotellmarknadens Konjunkturbarometer Maj 2023

The hotel market statistics for the first quarter in Sweden show strong key figures. Compared to the corresponding quarter in 2022, the number of occupied rooms increased by 31 percent, the occupancy rate by 26 percent, the ARR by 13 percent, and the RevPAR by 43 percent. However, it should be noted that these key figures are partially influenced by Covid-19 restrictions and high inflation.

In contrast to the uncertainty that characterized the fourth quarter of 2022, the first quarter of 2023 demonstrates cautious optimism. Among hotel companies, nearly 5 out of 10 forecasted an increase in demand over the next 6 months. This can be compared to 2 out of 10 hotels that anticipated a decrease in their demand going forward. Additionally, more than 9 out of 10 hotel companies expect an unchanged or increased price level in the future, and the perception of profitability has slightly improved.

Despite the cautiously optimistic response during the first quarter, uncertainty remains due to a risky macroeconomic climate, which gives rise to an uncertain outlook for the future.
