Annordia led the operator search and selection process for the hotel on behalf of Skellefteå municipality.
On October 14, 2021, The Wood Hotel by Elite opened in one of the world’s tallest wooden buildings. Located in Skellefteå, which in recent years has become a thriving epicenter for Greentech, the hotel’s wooden building is designed with a strong focus on sustainability, and the ambition to be carbon neutral within the first five years.
The 20-story building was designed by White Architects. The hotel has 205 rooms, three restaurants as well as a rooftop bar and spa with spectacular panoramic views of the midnight sun and northern lights. The hotel has three meeting rooms on the 4th floor with a total capacity of 230 people in cinema seating.
The building also houses a completely new cultural center where both guests and locals can visit a museum, galleries, a theater, concert stages and Skellefteå’s new city library. The Wood Hotel and Sara Kulturhus offer state-of-the-art meeting facilities and a large conference room for up to 1200 people.
The house’s roof garden acts as insulation from cold, heat, and noise while preserving the biological diversity and delaying the drainage of water. The roof also has solar cells, which with the help of batteries can store energy to minimize the building’s energy impact.
